Flashcard Hero App Reviews

Great app. It does what it says quite well. I ran into a trivial problem with the app, contacted the developer and he was a great help too. (and he fixed my problem.) If you’re looking for a flashcard app to learn/memorize stuff or whatever, this is *the* app to buy. My only issue with it and this is a small one, is that study UI could be a bit better. Instead of having all those buttons and sidebars (which you can hide), I’d love to have a UI where I see nothing but cards and navigate through them using my keyboard. (You can already navigate through your cards using your keyboard, but a little less distraction would be nice.) Kind of like a “focus mode” as it were. That’s not to say I don’t like the current study UI, it certainly gives you a lot of great options but another mode or an option like the one I described would make this app perfect.

Flashcard Hero

Both a well designed and handy application. Ideal for making flashcards! Seems to work well, easy to use….perfect!

Sync Problems

I like the actual program on the Mac, but after the first two decks syncing to my iphone, the next two have not done anything, they just stay on my mac with that cloud symbol hovering over them forever. I have followed all the directions and made sure of the settings on both my mac and phone. Then I read a review below that this is not working with IOS 8. If that’s the problem then epic fail, I would expect this issue to be resolved immediately.

Fantastic App!

This is a great flashcard app. There could be room for improvement but the developers seem to love feedback and improving the app so I am not too worried about the flaws. I love how it automatically syncs with my phone.

beware app does not function as advertised

app does not function as advertised. i paid for the mac app, downloaded the phone app, made sure icloud was on both devices, spent hours making my cards think of the convenience of what i bought in to, but then the app doesn’t upload the cards to the iphone. i have spent even more hours of my time going through all the trouble shooting tip and hints on the app for nothing. i still cant get the app to work as advertised. i spent money and didn’t get what i paid for. i want my money back!

Good and Bad Timing

So this is a good application. I like the way it goes through cards in smaller bundles than the deck, based on rating each card’s difficulty. I like being able to share the cards online. I wish that my friends could download them into their own Flashcard Hero. I also wish that apple would timed their upgrades so that my iCloud could have synced this to my phone. I really could have used that and it is why I bought the application.

FANTASTIC!!

I have been using Flashcard Hero for several months. It has become one of my most useful tools for learning and teaching. I seriously would be lost without it. It is an unbelievable value. The latest update is exciting. Users can now import directly from Quizlet — no more retyping questions and answers. I have smoothly used Flashcard hero with Mountain Lion, Maverick, and now Yosemite! iCloud integrates seemlessly. Overally, this is a great software made by an excellent developer. I’m proud to be a registered user, and I highly recommend it!

Bad syncing between Mac and iOS apps

After the Yosemite update syncing between the Mac and iOS apps is pretty bad. Sometimes things sync and other times it doesn’t. Since I can’t depend on things syncing properly, I can only use the Mac app reliably.

Hate It!!

I spent hours making review cards and they wont sync and now they just disappeard!! Worse App ever!!

DONT BUY!

I bought this app thinking it was well developed however it is useless and you can not use it with your iPhone like they claim. The cards never load to your phone. I would not waste your money, there are other flash card apps that work better and that are cheaper.

Great App… except for iCloud syncing

The app is versatile and adaptive to just about any scenario in which memorization of facts, people, or concepts is desired. I have used the app to memorize faces to names, pertinant facts about an institution, and to gain better understanding of difficult concepts. It is best used across platforms by sending a pdf file from the Mac app to the iOS device (via email, message, etc.) then opening the pdf file in the flashcard hero app for the device. What unfortunately does not work is the syncronizing in iCloud. I’ve lost and corrupted files trying this technique. Better at this point store the files on the local Mac computer and share the pdf file between platforms, as flashcard hero opens them without error.

solid performing app- a few suggestions

I really like this app’s interface- it is clean and visually appealing. I also appreciate how it syncs with icloud automatically and will show up on my iphone (free iphone app!). A few suggestions which would make it a 5 star app: 1) if i’m in “study mode” on my laptop, if i put too much info on my card, i can’t rate (“easy” “unsure” “hard”) my card because the top is covering it- please make the cards “scroll-able” for the laptop app. 2) when i switch in and out of the app, the deck restarts- it would be great if i were given the option of starting over or resuming from where i left off. 3) I would like to be able to edit the card while in study mode; esp w/o losing my place in the deck 4) on the iphone app, it would be great if the card “flips” when you tap the screen, instead of swiping. but even in its current form, this app is still worth the money!

Great App… syncing ehh?

This is the perfect app. I prefer this 10x over mental case. It works great, but the syncing has issues. I have to close… open… close… opening… praying that it syncs. Please just fix this, but great and wonderful app.

Amazing except for syncing

App works great, does what it says in description. Only down side is that it takes a VERY long time to sync some times (expecially decks that have 20 or more cards). Other than that it is a great app. Would definitely recomend it.

Easy & intuitive, great potential, & very responsive developer

I was hesistant to purchase a paid flashcard app given that there are so many free options out there, but ultimately I’m glad I did. It’s very user-friendly, and one of its coolest features is that it utilizes .pdf files for native import/export, so when you export your cards (i.e. if you wanted to print them), they’re quickly available in a pdf file —so if you wanted to, you could open said file in any pdf app and study/annonate/modify etc. Developer is also very receptive to suggestions for improvement and is prompt with responses. There are definitely some additional features/capabilities I’d like the app to have, as noted in other reviews, but what warrants the 5 star rating in my opinion is my interactions with the developer thus far.

So helpful and conveinient!

I recently discovered the free version and decided to spend the $8 for the full version. I am always on the go. Having the ability to create the stacks on my computer then going on my phone or iPad is extremely useful! Plus, it saves paper and my hand doesn’t have to cramp up from writing small on notecards!

Easy and powerful

Great app. Does exactly what it says. Had some problems at first getting my Mac to talk to my iphone but the support walked me through every step. Don’t usually like to spend $ on apps but this one is worth it.

Great, but needs a few tweaks

As many other mentioned syncing is often hit and miss. Sometimes it will sync sometimes it will not. Never seen such problems with any other app. Another problem that I personally run into is using long text in flashcards. On smaller screens cards tend to cover “card row” on the buttom of the screen and I cannot see how I reated card before. No total cound of cards. It is hard to judge how many left to study.

Best Flash Card App for OSX

THIS APP IS WORTH EVERY PENNY and that is coming from a college student who cannot remember the last time he paid for any application. I use this app for studying and note taking in class. The ability to add images really makes this program useful for me, I can screen shot important slides from a presenation and insert them into the application. The developer is extremely helpful and responds quickly, he helped me recover flash card desks that didn’t tranfer properly to a new mac at 3am the night before a test (although I’m pretty sure he is based in Germany so it was morning for him) I tried some free apps before this and its honestly not worth the savings. You will wonder why you didn’t buy this years ago. My only suggustion would be to allow users to organize decks in alaphabetical order on the main screen.

good, but improvements are needed

I would like to see some editing tools (for text and pictures). Also the upload to the iCloud is REALLY SLOW.
